Mincarlo - A Lowestoft SidewinderMincarlo is the last of her kind. A floating tribute to the men who braved the North Sea to provide our fish, she is the last surviving fishing vessel built in Lowestoft with an engine made in the town. Spring 2012 OpeningMincarlo is delayed by technical issues so will not return to her tourist mooring in time for the Hooked on Heritage event on May 5th. Opening times will be posted here once known. Future opening dates to be confirmed ASAP Winter 2011 CEFAS tidy at Small & Co.Last year Mincarlo was looking very sad, she was in need of some TLC. The Trust explained the situation - that they were at the beginning of restoring The Mincarlo, as they had The Lydia Eva. We know many local reader are extremely interested in this particular part of Lowestoft's heritage. Spring 2011 Mincarlo was taken to Small & Co's yard where she had some cosmetic work carried out to enable her to open to the public on her berth at The Heritage Quay, and the voluntary crew would like to thank all her visitors this summer for their generous donations which are a vital part of her up keep - we had a good summer. On the 20th September 2011 The Mincarlo was taken once again in Small & Co's yard in Lowestoft and this time it was a major survey, she was 'dry docked' and a marine survey was carried out. this will indicate to the Trust exactly what needs to be done and we can cost out the restoration and start to raise the money we will require. On Wednesday 28th September , 8am, The Mincarlo left the dry dock and was moored on Small & Co's Quay where she welcomed on board a team from CEFAS, one of Lowestoft's most prestigious companies, who will be having a 'volunteering day' on board, helping us sort out and clean up after the summer season, this is being co ordinate by Karen Rundle from CEFAS and The Trust's chairman Alan Bagley. We are extremely proud of our association with Small & Co. Ltd. and would like to thank Paul Kirby & his staff for all their expertise & help. We hope that this joint venture with CEFAS, something very new for us, will also develope into a lasting relationship we can both benefit from.
